Mental Skills Training
What Is it & Why Do We Do it?
Our Mission
In an increasingly competitive and uncertain world, young people are under more and more pressure to deliver.
But with our focus on results, the time spent developing the attitudes and mental skills they need to manage these pressures has become smaller and smaller.
Deliberate training in the mental skills and strategies to manage pressure, overcome setbacks and challenge negative thinking only takes place in the elite, high-performance space.
This doesn’t make sense to us - these skills aren’t specific to sports - they’re vital life skills for everyone and needed now more than ever by our young people.
It’s our mission to provide young people access to the key concepts of Sport & Performance Psychology; so they can explore and develop the mindset to realise their full potential.
Who is Mental Skills Training For?
In the high-stakes world of elite performance, everything can ride on how an athlete is able to manage their thoughts and emotions.
No matter how hard they work on the training field or in the gym, success depends on their mental fitness as well.
Mental Skills training is a coaching process to help a performer challenge negative thoughts, be self-aware, visualise successful outcomes, regulate emotions and set goals to deliver their best consistently.
Through our workshops and coaching, we simply give young people access to the same methods and skills, to empower them in the same way.
The Need For Mental Skills Training
Young people’s lives are scrutinised around the clock on social media. Images of success are everywhere, but opportunities for it seem increasingly scarce.
Whether in their personal lives, in their education or at work, many are facing a crisis in confidence and self-esteem.
In 2019, the Princes Trust Youth Index reported that over half of 16-25 year olds think they put too much pressure on themselves to succeed and more than a quarter feel like they are going to fail in life.
Having spent our professional lives working to support young people, we’ve seen the impact of this crisis first hand and we’re determined to do something about it.
For us, the key lies in proactive, honest education in psychology and mental skills training to:
Empower young people by developing positive, informed relationships with their thoughts and emotions
Equip them with the beliefs and mental skills to reframe those thoughts and emotion and use them to their advantage.
“Our aim is to equip Young People with key concepts from the field of Sport & Performance Psychology and teach applied mental skills that translate into everyday use.”
